The temperatures are dropping and it is tempting to eat heavy foods that make us feel warm and cozy. Often these foods are less healthy than lighter fare, but it is possible to get that full, warm feeling from a winter staple-oatmeal! Our recipe is good for you and your skin health and a great way to start your day.

This wonderful Whole Grain Oatmeal contains Vit A, C, & E that help reduce inflammation,  fight free radicals, synthesize collagen and encourage cell turnover for healthy, youthful looking skin. Add some fruit such as Blackberries, Blueberries or Raspberries for a boost of Vitamin C in this “Common Cold” Season!

Vit A IU   52

Vit C mg  0.3

Vit E mg  2.2

Ingredients:

1 cup whole rolled oats (I recommend John McCann Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal)

4 cups water

2 tbsp. chopped figs

1/2 cup soy milk to adjust consistency

1/8 tsp. cinnamon (optional, but tasty!)

2 tbsp. brown sugar or organic cane sugar

Method:

In saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil, add oats and bring back to boil. Watch carefully or it will boil over. Reduce heat to a low simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and adjust consistency to your preference with soy milk. Finish with a pinch of sea sale. NOTE: If you use instant oatmeal, follow the directions of the package.
