Age Spots

As many of us age, we start to notice pigmented blemishes on our skin. There is a reason we call these blemishes Age Spots. Age spots are flat, pigmented spots on the skin and are also called liver spots, senile lentigines, solar lentigines or sun spots. These spots are a common cosmetic concern of our patients at Asarch Center.

Age spots are the result of an excess production of melanin. They may be caused by skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet light exposure, such as tanning beds. You are most likely to develop age spots on the areas of your skin that receive the most sun exposure, including:

  • Face
  • Back of your hands
  • Shoulders
  • Forearms

For the most part, age spots pose no threat and require no treatment, though many patients decide to seek treatment due to their unsightly appearance. Treatment can be done at Asarch Center with cryotherapy, laser or intense pulsed light.
