In parts 1 & 2 of my blog on damaging UV rays and their effect on your skin health and appearance, I addressed tanning addiction and protection from the sun. In this blog I want to address the solution if the damage is already apparent on your skin (age spots, skin sagging, lines and wrinkles, pre-cancerous lesions, etc.)

It’s a cycle. Sun-damaged skin cells produce more damaged unhealthy skin components, causing skin to age rapidly. A topical solution to addressing sun damage is DermaSpaRx DNA Repair Gel which penetrates skin cells to help repair DNA, literally reversing the aging process.  This gel contains ingredients which help the skin recover from ultraviolet light damage, antioxidants, vitamin C, and agents that promote collagen synthesis and help diminish fine lines.

If you’ve lost volume or have noticed increased lines and wrinkles, you may want to turn to a more aggressive treatment with a filler like Juviderm. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your ‘smile lines’ or ‘parentheses’ (the creases that run from the bottom of yout nose to the corners of your mouth).

Juvederm® is a non-surgical treatment, with minimal downtime.  Most treatments are performed in the office and can last about 20 minutes.  Pain is minimized with topical numbing cream or local anesthesia. Contact us for an appointment by clicking here.

If you are noticing that age spots are apparent, you should add Derma Luna to your regimen and might be a good candidate for Intense Pulse Light Treatments.Derma Luna is a moisturizing cream which promotes lightening and an even skin tone on all skin types while providing hydration and collagen stimulation.

The unsightly flat brown spots that occur frequently in sun-exposed areas, e.g. the face and hands, can also be removed using the Intense Pulse Light treatments.  After treatment, the skin in the areas treated will become dark and peel off in 7-10 days. Usually 2 to 4 treatments are needed to achieve the desired results. Remember adequate sunscreens are necessary at all times and the use of a skin lightening agent (e.g. dermaSpaRx  Dermaluma) is also beneficial.

The good news is with a little dedication the damage that you have already done to your skin can be reversed.

To your skin health,

Dr. Richard Asarch, M.D.
