The Three Primary Uses of Botox Injections for Cosmetic Enhancement of the Face - Page

At Asarch Dermatology, Laser and Mohs Surgery, we see many patients in the local communities of Colorado who are seeking anti-aging solutions. While a traditional plastic surgeon can perform procedures such as face lift to combat fine lines and wrinkles that develop on the facial skin, many of these procedures may be unnecessary for mild to moderate signs of aging. With cosmetic injectables such as Botox, patients in the area can turn back time with a much less invasive alternative.

Understanding how Botox works

Botox is a neuromodulator that can reduce muscle contractions where it is injected. When injected into specific muscles of the face, patients will notice a reduction in the wrinkles and folds in these particular areas. These dynamic wrinkles become less noticeable, allowing patients to look younger than ever! The results of Botox injections typically last anywhere from six to nine months, depending on the patient, the amount of Botox used, and the area in which Botox was injected.

Where can Botox be used on the face?

Patients who are interested in using Botox will find that these injections work best on dynamic wrinkles that develop on the upper third of the face. These may include:

  • Glabellar lines – the glabellar lines, sometimes referred to as “elevens,” are the vertical lines that develop in between the eyebrows. While noticeable when a patient furrows his or her eyebrows, they may also become deep and noticeable even when the patient has a resting facial expression.
  • Forehead folds – folds that develop horizontally along the forehead can also be treated with injections of Botox to become far less noticeable.
  • Crow’s feet – crow’s feet is another term for the lines that develop around the outer areas of the eye. These lines are creases that develop over time and become more noticeable as a patient ages. By injecting Botox in the surrounding muscles, these lines are reduced in depth and appearance.
