The latest edition of Dr. Asarch’s book, Turn Back The Years On Your Face, will arrive soon. Watch our posts for announcements about both the print and digital versions! Here is a preview with some simple steps for better skin…

SIMPLE WAYS TO HELP YOUR SKIN

A Boost for Your Skin: Sleep on Your Back – This one is simple and does not involve major lifestyle changes. Gravity pulls on your skin during the day. Over time, sleep lines develop from pressing one side of your face against a pillow. Give it a little break when you sleep. Don’t sleep on your side or stomach. Make sleeping on your back a nightly habit and reduce the chance of developing an extra crease on that side of your face.

Smoking: Nothing’s Sexier Than a Wrinkled-Up 30-year-old-Over the years we have all heard of the damaging effects that smoking can have on our lungs, heart and blood vessels. However, most people do not know what smoking does to their skin. Besides its other harmful effects, smoking causes skin nearly the same extreme problems that sunlight does. Scientists have found that smokers are almost five times more likely to have wrinkles than nonsmokers.

Smoking leads to the production of a large quantity of free radicals in your skin, damaging the supporting structures.A typical “smoker’s” face exhibits prominent wrinkles, gauntness, thin grayish color, and areas of orange, purple and red pigmentation.

You can see cigarettes’ well-known aging effects even in your mid-to-late 20s. Nicotine in cigarette smoke cuts down on the skin’s oxygen supply by reducing blood flow. Smoking also reduces collagen, the substance that keeps your skin tight and smooth.

Smokers tend to have more problems with wound healing after surgery and have more pronounced scarring. Smoking also increases the risk of developing skin cancers, especially squamous-cell carcinomas. If you smoke, STOP! If you don’t, DON’T START!

Slow Down the Face Years Clock- Your daily habits make or break your skin. Wash skin gently. Use products proven to keep skin smooth and healthy. Avoid bad habits like scrunching your face with a pillow, smoking and going outside during the day without sunscreen. Do all of these things and your skin will stay beautiful much longer.
