It is likely that Botox, Juvederm and Ultherapy will be the top 3 Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures in 2013. Based on medical expertise, number of consultations performed and requests for information during 2012, these three anti-aging cosmetic procedures are slated to be the most popular for 2013.
The appeal of instant results leads many patients to turn to Botox to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin by making the same expression thousands of times. These “expression lines”, often called frown lines or crow’s feet, are due to the contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area. We have known for years that surgically cutting that muscle will improve the wrinkle.
BOTOX® is a purified protein toxin which has no serious side effects when used correctly in a medical setting. A few drops of BOTOX® are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When BOTOX® is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.
The effects of BOTOX® typically last three to four months, at which time another injection is required. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX® may begin to last longer, sometimes up to five to six months. Botox has been used safely and successfully in ophthalmology for over 15 years, and for wrinkle therapy for over 10 years. Side effects are very unusual. Even if they should occur, they are temporary and localized to the area of injection.
As you age, you may notice that your face is losing fat and volume. Juvederm® injectable gel is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment with minimal down time. A fine needle is used to place Juvederm® beneath the skin to add volume and diminish wrinkles. Results can be seen instantly and can last longer than 9 to 12 months. Common areas treated include the laugh lines (on the side of your mouth), the naso-labial lines (from nose to the side of your mouth) and the marionette lines (from the corners of your mouth downwards).
2013 could be the year of Ulthera. This non-invasive skin tightening treatment is FDA approved and has many benefits including no down time, amazing results, and a natural ability to help rejuvenate and promote collagen growth. Ulthera works deep below the surface-without harming the outer layer of skin-for firming, tightening and lifting. It is the perfect treatment to combat the loss of elasticity in our skin.
This year we are offering a new Ultherapy Full Neck Treatment. Just recently, the Ulthera® system received FDA approval to non-invasively lift lax tissue on the neck and the beneath the chin. For years, we’ve heard about the significant concerns patients have with sagging skin under their chins and on their neck. Now Ultherapy has a treatment to address this issue – with no downtime and, most often, results are achieved in a single session.
