Telangiectasias

Facial vascular lesions often affect our self-esteem, especially if they are very dark. They often seem to appear in prominent places where they grab attention: our lips, noses, fingers, or near our eyes are all common places for these annoying little blemishes to appear. In the past, your treatment option would be to use makeup to keep them hidden away. Thankfully, we have options now to help in a more permanent way. Keep reading to learn more about Telangiectasia, and how you can banish them with our help.

What are they?

Telangiectasia are blood vessels that are red, purple, or blue and appear on the surface of the skin, many times on the face, upper chest, and neck. They are similar to spider veins, which appear on the legs as we get a little bit older. The veins in question are not important to bodily function, so removal of them can be a great option to consider, especially if they affect your self esteem.

Where do they come from?

Telangiectasia may come from many different factors. Genetics reveal a predisposition toward Telangiectasia in certain patients, and pregnancy may also encourage their appearance (since your body changes during pregnancy, putting stress on the veins).

Telangiectasia may also come from environmental factors or other outside sources so  exposure to sun and wind, surgical incisions, use of medications that widen blood vessels,  trauma to the skin, or even excessive alcohol use have all been well-documented as linked to these little visible veins.

How do I treat them?

Unfortunately, there are not many options to treat visible veins if you are looking for lotions or other topical treatments. Sclerotherapy has been very effective in removing these unsightly veins, restoring a more clear complexion that makes patients more pleased. We offer Sclerotherapy here at the Asarch Center to help rid yourself of unsightly veins.

Sclerotherapy is a proven treatment that features an injection of a solution (usually saline) directly into the problematic vein. This solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse.
