Collagen

Collagen is a vital component of our skin, essential for proper wellness and support of the body's skin structure. With time and sun exposure, it fragments and weakens. This can lead to unwanted changes in the appearance leading to the formation of lines and wrinkles. Collagen injection can be used to reshape and minimize these grooves and depressions.

Collagen, which is used as a filling material, actually is obtained from cattle. Although it is purified, it is a foreign substance and can occasionally cause allergic reactions. Therefore, prior to its use, skin tests must be done to minimize the chances of reacting to the material.

Different concentrations of collagen may be needed depending on the severity of the areas treated. Higher concentrations are used in the deeper layers of the skin and lighter concentrations in the more superficial regions. The collagen that is injected is slowly broken down and the treatments will need to be repeated. Collagen usually lasts for three to six months.

The procedure takes just a few minutes and is performed in the office.
